We have not been too active lately, partly because we still are in Finland time which is 5 hours behind Singapore. This basically means that no morning exercise is possible, and in the afternoon it is simply too hot for anything outdoors. The coming week is probably also very low in workout, since Tei is attending a two-day symposium. However, despite the hot afternoon and the nearby looming thunderstorm we went for a hike and visited the highest point in Singapore, the Bukit Timah hill, which rises majestetic 163.8 meters above the sea level. We walked all the way from the NUS campus to the nature reserve, hiked to the top, and took a taxi back home. However comfortable the shoes, walking in this heat is tough for feet: as a result we got some blisters. Another results of this trip is a new pair of trail running shoes for Tei (they actually were the ultimate purpose of the whole adventure). There is a tiny outdoor store at the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Visitor Center, and they had a weekend promotion on Montrail running shoes. Unfortunately, their data connection was out, so we couldn't pay the shoes with the credit card, and thus can only pick them up next weekend. Or go for a trail run! The hike to the top of Bukit Timah was nice, although humid (it had been raining in the morning), but the summit was somewhat a disappointment. Because of the trees, we could not see anything from there. We understand the unwillingness to cut the trees, but there should be a fire tower or something for visitors to have an opportunity to appreciate the view. |
