Another episode in the adventure series 'TnT in Singapore.' Most of our rides so far have lead to the western part of the island. Today, we want to explore the mid section, and since riding on the streets is a nightmare, we are especially interested in the mountain biking trail system in the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. The original plan is to ride all around the reserve, but after finishing the six kilometer loop, we are homebound. Our mountain biking skills do not quite match the trail challenges. Some sections are steep and rocky, some sections just very narrow, so we end up walking the bikes a lot. And of course, there are some stairs in which we have to carry the bikes up. It is a lot of fun, though, and excellent exercise. We see some monkeys, too. By the way, Bukit Timah is the highest hill in Singapore, and depending on the source, it rises between 163 and 167 meters above the sea level. The biking trail does not go to the top. This as many other hills in Singapore, has been chipped away by quarry operations for the landfills. |
