Comments Lotta subbed Nadia in our last classes of the Spring. In the advanced class we learned a three-hand ceili. It was fun! There were not enough students in the second class, so officially we did not have a class, but Jenny taught me St. Patrick's Day, another traditional Irish set dance. It was fun, too!

Comments Last week of Spring season, and second but last session with the current program #65. The next one #66 has a lot of push-ups, I heard today. I took the picture on the right on my way to campus today. By the end of the Summer this area will be grown up to the height of an average adult, and the trail will be very slim.

Comments +14C, sunny but a cool N wind. We skipped lunch and made a short bicycle ride, visiting two nice cafeterias on our way for coffee and quiche. The first stop was at Cafe Laurentius by The Church of St. Lawrence (you may remember the place from our last year's trip). The second stop was at Kuninkaankartano (The King's Manor) by an old file factory.

Comments The big day started with the class in the morning. Then I had about an hour to go home, take a shower, dress up and go to The Alexander Theater, which used to be Helsinki's Opera House before the Finnish National Opera moved to the new building.

Our dress rehearsal was supposed to be at 2pm, but we started an hour late. The two shows started at 4pm and 7pm, and both ran for two and a half hours including intermission. There were 32 numbers in the first show and 34 in the second one. I practically spent eight hours in my Irish shoes. Boy, I was tired when home at 10:30pm. Tomi took this single picture, although any kind of photographing or video taping was strictly forbidden (I had no idea!).

Our instructor promised some new workouts next week from the new program #66. I saw a doctor this morning for the shin splints. She subscribed some pain medicine and gel, but did not suggest total abstination from exercise. I take this for an encouragement, as soon as the pain goes away.

Comments Lotta subbed Nädia. In the advanced class we rehearsed the soft shoe reel AGAIN, or rather just the first two steps of it. Fortunately, we did go over the show routine a couple of times, too. The intermediate class we spent exclusively rehearsing Blackbird and Heady Reel for the show. The show will be next Saturday aty 4pm and 7pm, and we do have classes in the morning, and then the premiere in the afternoon.

Comments Off the beaten path. We make another attempt to ride the trail to Korpilampi and Serena (the last one was on March 30 last year). No mud this time, but someone's gotten a weird idea that an off-road bicycle trail should be like sand dune. We saw a lot of loose sand, gravel, and rocky trails with tree roots squirming around. My mountain biking skills could not quite manage the terrain. Anyway, we had fun, and it was a gorgeous sunny day. I am very happy with my bike, too.

Comments We mostly rehearsed the Spring show numbers. The intermediate routine still needs to be put together, but I have basically decided not to do it. If I will, there is going be scheduling problems, since I have to change the costume back and forth. Comments We rode to Tapiola's sport complex to watch our soccer WNT to play Iceland. The game ended 1-1, as Finland tied the game in stoppage time. The game attracted an attendance of about 1600, most of the fans being 10-year old soccer girls from Southern Finland, since they had had a soccer camp in the arena this weekend. There were some Icelandic fans, too. The weather was most wonderful. No rain so far, but thunder is approaching.

Comments In the advanced class we started with some A-jumps. we rehearsed the third step to the reel, and finished the class with jig steps to the show choreogrpahy. In the intermediate class we started a new soft shoe reel, and practised Blackbird and the reel steps. This time everything went much nicer than last. I am still not use if I will learn the steps adequately.

The pedometer should be calibrated correctly now, since I checked it on a 800-meter track last week. But 6K sounds more right. Anyway, I ran one 3K lap in 17 minutes. I should also start reminding myself that daily temperatures begin to be too much for a midday run. I have to find my inner early bird.

Tomi swam 1.5K in 35 minutes this morning.

Comments Happy May Day! It was cloudy in the morning but soon the sun came out, and it wasn't until we had prepared and packed our May Day picnic delicacies and a bottle of champagne, and reached a nice spot in the nearby park that the sun was gone again. Anyway, we enjoyed the roast beef wrap rolls and strawberry crostini with a good wine and company.
