While Tomi was finishing the camer-ready copy of the conference paper, I took advantage of the nice weather and went for an early afternoon run. Soon, it will be too warm to run in the middle of the day.

Comments +17C, sunny, windy. Took a tour in the countryside. Actually, it took more than hour to get out of the fully developed area, and still it was not quite peaceful. We really enjoyed riding the country roads instead of combined recreational trails that are crowded by bicyclists, roller skaters and dog-walkers.

We visited Hvitträsk, once a home and studio of some of the most famous Finnish architects, among them Eliel Saarinen. Saarinen is most notably known, not only of Helsinki's main railway station, but also First Christian church in Columbus, Indiana. And Columbus is famous for its unique architecture by world-class architects, among them also Eliel's brother Erkki.

Comments Mostly sunny, +15C, windy. We stopped for a coffee and ice cream at the Cafe of Luukkaa outdoor recreation area. There were a lot of campers, and why wouldn't there be --- it is a holiday and the weather is just great.

There was some old Ford gathering going on. I wonder if my brother took part in it even if his own Ford is not in a shape to be driven longer distances.

Comments +14C, cloudy, the sun almost came out. I tried to keep the heart rate between 120 and 130, but in the uphills it shot up to 140. I also noticed that despite the lower hear rate, running at a slower pace is harder than running at a faster pace, the distance being equal. Words of wisdom: it's the time that matters. Running steep uphills slow is also hard for calf muscles.

Tomi played soccer outdoors for the first time (45 mins). Light and fun! he says.

Comments +14C, partly cloudy. Comfortable run that gave an opportunity to race only in the last five kilometers. The starting order was based on the registration order, not the projected finish time. This meant that the narrow trails were overly populated, and there was no way of enjoying the scenery. Besides, I had to make every effort not to step on anyone's feet, or to avoid anyone stepping on mine. After the first two kilometers we were 40 seconds behind the plan. Fortunately, we were able to catch on later.

At the 15K mark we heard a loud applause from the crowds; Finns beat Russians in the ice hockey world championships semifinal game and will face Canada in the finals tomorrow.

The race was well organized, but there is something wrong with the race fans. There were quite a few people along the route, but they were not cheering, they were not rooting on us. They were just standing and apathetically staring at the bypassing runners.

Comments Another futile attempt to run on the track. F*ng schoolkids! Just kidding, it is great they get some exercise and have a chance to be outdoors in this gorgeous day. It's above 15 degrees of celsius and sunny. Hopefully, tomorrow morning the track is unoccupied.

Comments Bummer! The track was occupied again --- this time a running practise was taking place. We did a few ~300-meter sprints on the regular trail. No numbers available; I forgot the heart rate monitor at home, or actually I had the transmitter but not the watch. It is relatively warm, +10C, but the gusty wind is back.

On the right you can see some spring foliage sprouting in this neighborhood. The picture is taken from our balcony (which actually is our next renovation project. Stay tuned for details!).
