Exercise KickBoxing
Time 45:00
Comments Basic workout, a lot of repetitions --- not too hard but it made us sweat.

@ Wed 28/06/2006
Exercise Strength (F/S)
Time 45:00
Comments We did a lot of squats and lunges again, and exhausted the shoulders and glutes.

Exercise Run
Course CEM4
Distance 5.5K
Time 26:03 (4 laps only)
Comments Ave 142 (max 160,rest 134), +18C, cloudy and humid. We did four one-minute and six 30-second speed intervals, and jogged in between.

@ Mon 26/06/2006
Exercise Strength (F/S)
Time 45:00
Comments We had an ex tempore class given by a sub, since the equipment racks were locked and the key, well ... misplaced. We only used the mat, stability ball and resistance band. We did a lot of big movements with the ball which was targeted to obliques but truly exhausted the shoulders. We actually ended the class with the same warm-up session as we started with.

We also did some nice stuff with the ball to train inner thighs. And crunches and lounges, and planks ...

Exercise Run
Course RTT
Distance 13.2K
Time 1:25:24
Comments Ave 142, +20-24C, sunny and humid. Relatively easy run that progressively got harder as the temperature rocketed.

@ Fri 23/06/2006
Exercise Core/stretch (F/S)
Time 45:00
Comments Quite the ordinary; some squats and weight training with the ball against the wall. A lot of crunches and some sliding planks.

@ Thu 22/06/2006
Exercise Run
Course CEM2
Distance 3.4K
Time 20:22
Comments Ave 148, +24C, sunny. We took a short and muggy run before the US soccer MNT met Ghana in their final first round match in Wolrd Cup, and lost 2-1. The US travels home, whereas Ghana and Italy advance from Group E. Bummer!

Exercise Strength (F/S)
Time 45:00
Comments Christy had heard that her sessions are considered easy. Now she made us really sweat. We did A LOT of repetitions of combined balance, quads and arm workout, and series of crunches on the ball.

Exercise Run
Course Wapehani mountain bike park
Time 51:30
Comments +23C, sunny, humid. The trail was relatively muddy after yesterday's downpour. Some bugs bothered but otherwise it was a fun run. We also logged some 15 kilometers of bicycling; we took the Clear Creek and Rails to Trails back.

@ Sun 18/06/2006
Exercise Irish step
Time 1:30:00
Comments Dancing for the first time since I broke my toe. This was an extra class Mimi organized for fun. We reviewed the new lead-around and the slip-jig step we learned this Spring. We also reviewed hard-shoe reel step (Zilia had her new hard-shoes, yippee!), crap step, sidestep and some funny 8-count "back-step".

Exercise Run
Course RTT
Distance 10K
Time 1:06:38
Comments Ave 144, +25C, sunny. We did four two-minute drills in 10K race pace with recovery jog in between. Running in these temperatures is definitely too hard; we need to move to morning shift.

@ Fri 16/06/2006
Exercise Core/stretch (F/S)
Time 45:00
Comments We went through a lot of things in fast pace in order to leave more time for stretching. We used light weights and gliding disks. We did some planks, pushups and crunches on the ball. The session was really popular today!

@ Tue 13/06/2006
Exercise Trekking
Time 45:00
Comments After warming up we started with chubby hills --- a number of short and moderate inclines. Then we did some speed work, and switched back to major hills with upto 10% grade. We finished with sprinting.

I need to consider cranking up the recovery pace. The exercise was effective, alright, but I think I need more challenge in the speed workouts.

Exercise Core
Time 30:00
Comments Isometric, planks, push-ups, variations of crunches and curls and some lower back workout on the mat.

Exercise Bicycling
Course Anderson, Shilo, Robinson, Old 37
Distance 41.3K
Time 2:05:20
Comments +20C, partly cloudy, N wind. Brisk afternoon ride after watching the US MNT lose its first World Cup game against Czech Republic. We saw a deer and a lot of colorful butterflies.

Exercise Run
Course RTT
Distance 10K
Time 1:04:59
Comments + 18C, cloudy, humid. On your marks ... first run since forever. My heart rate monitor is dead so I don't know the official numbers, but it felt good. I took one misstep when trying to avoid a tiny yapping dog dressed in pink sweater bounding in front of my legs. Gosh, why don't people take better care of their animals. The toe did not bother me for long after the incident.

@ Fri 09/06/2006
Exercise Core/stretch(F/S)
Time 45:00
Comments I could certainly feel yesterday's kickboxing in my arms and upper back. We used the stability ball for balancing when doing some weight training; bicep curls and chest presses. We also did some squats, and quite a few planks using the gliding disks. We finished with funny stretching against the wall.

@ Thu 08/06/2006
Exercise KickBoxing (F/S)
Time 45:00
Comments We have not gone to kickboxing for a few months. This session was not the hardest I've been to, but quite effective. We went through all the basic jabs, crosses, hooks and upper-cuts and some kicks. We finished with some short routines. Let's see how my toe feels tomorrow.

Exercise Strength (F/S)
Time 45:00
Comments Thunderstorms took a break just in time to let us run to the HPER. This was the first time I had my running shoes on since I broke my toe. Running was easy, the toe a bit cranky, but I guess it is healing well.

This time we did only minimally squats and lunges. We used the ball for stabilizing, and also for abs and upper body workout. We trained back quite a bit --- lower, mid and upper. No planks this time but some isometric in the end.

We were at home just in time to hear the second front of rumble coming.

@ Mon 05/06/2006
Exercise Strength
Time 60:00
Comments After a two-week break our killer leader is full of energy. We systematically fatigue all major muscle groups. We start with, not one or two, but about ten sets of squats and lunges on each side using the bench and floor. We continue with shoulder exercises with the band and "light" weights. We do three sets of 12 what we love most; the backward push-ups to train triceps.

We do some chest on the bench and some glutes on the mat; I could not even count how many sets. We finish with some abs on mat. That was the easiest part. Whew!

Exercise Bicycling
Course Nashville, Ind.
Distance 67.3K
Time 3:37:30
Comments +19-22C, sunny, relatively strong NE wind.

I know I am gambling with my dissertation, but I can't help going out for a bike ride this beautiful Sunday morning. Besides I am planning to buy some new J.B. Good's stuff.

At 11 am. the sky is clear, and the NE breeze cools down the air so that it is not humid nor hot. Later in the day the sky gets filled with "Simpsons clouds".

We experiment the newly found bike route out of town. It is secluded and dazing from the scent of surrounding blossoming trees. When it ends we follow IN 46 to Nashville, a town full of bikers and wobbling Hoosiers.

Nashville is not a terribly interesting town. It does not get much credit for reciding in Brown county, claimed to be the most scenic in Indiana. I cannot agree more about the scenery. Brown is also a very, very hilly county.

Nashville can be a culture study site though; there must be something that makes the tremendously overweight Hoosiers, dressed in white sneakers, blue jeans and red t-shirts (besides people coming all the way from the East coast) to battle the heat and spend numerous hours waddling from boutique to boutique and spend money on things you can never imagine being of any use.

Life is Good!

Exercise Dino Trail Run Series
Course Wapehani park, Bloomington, Ind.
Distance 15K
Time 1:27:00
Comments +22C, sunny. The trails in Wapehani park are nicely secluded so the sun was not a problem. It was very humid down in the ravines, since it had been raining heavily two nights before. The trail was pretty muddy, too.

The 15K route has a lot of short power climbs but also some longer descents and ascents. The rumor goes that someone had changed the tapes to cut the route short by one mile. No wonder the first finishers' times (in 5K) were surprisingly fast (just slightly above 16 minutes). The winner of the 15K finished in 55 and something minutes.

Tomi is not stumbling at the finish line, but the trail is simply so steep and rocky it looks like he is falling.

Exercise Core/stretch (F/S)
