Exercise Strength
Time 45:00
Comments Last workout of 2005. We used steps, risers, mat, resistance bands and gliding disks to work on biceps, triceps, hamstring, abs and back. A lot of new and interesting stuff. We ran to and from HPER.

Exercise Run
Course CEM
Distance 4K (4 * 100m strides)
Time 26:57
Comments Ave 140, +5C, cloudy, chilly S wind. We run to and from the cemetery, and did some strides there. Sprinting is fun, since one needs not to do it long :-)

@ Wed 28/12/2005
Exercise Run
Course RTT
Distance 10K
Time 1:01:40
Comments Ave 147, +12C, partly cloudy, S wind. We have a plan! We started to follow Runners' World Magazine's 16-week marathon training program, and deviated from it the very first day. Instead of doing a 3-miler with some strides, we went for a longer run, which is in the program for tomorrow. But the weather was so unseasonably nice, that a longer run was not a bad idea.

Exercise Gingerbread Bicycling
Comments Neither of us has ever made gingerbread cookies before, let alone decorated them. This project can be declared success. I think they look pretty cool.

Exercise Strength
Time 45:00
Comments A LOT of squats on the floor, on the step, w/ and w/o weights; biceps and triceps with weights; some crunches and lower back workout.

Exercise Run
Course To/from HPER
Comments Oooh - the thighs killed us when running back.

Exercise Run
Course To Tapp Rd
Distance 7K
Time 40:29
Comments Ave 150, +7C, cloudy, S wind. What a miserable Christmas weather we have ... run was good, though.

Exercise Run
Course HPER (+ To/from)
Distance 1*780, 2*520, 3*260 (= 3, 2, 1 laps)
Time 12:20 (1:14/lap)
Comments We ran some speed intervals for the first time since several months. HPER track is not optimal at all for fast running: sharp turns are tough for feet. It was a new experience to run in the warm, too.

Exercise Core
Time 30:00
Comments Bouncing and balancing on the ball. Long series of varying ab crunches.

Exercise Run
Course To Tapp Rd
Distance 7K
Time 40:22 (40:49)
Comments Ave 152, -1C, sunny, calm. Running gets better every day. Today it felt really strong despite yesterday's spell of common cold.

@ Sat 17/12/2005
Comments Today we decided that the two races we are going to participate this coming Spring 2006 are Spirit of St.Louis Half Marathon on April 9th, and Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon on April 29th.

IU hosts the annual Habitat for Humanity 5K fund raising run on April 2nd, just a week shy of St. Louis mini. We could run it for warm-up or tune-up or just for fun or good cause.

Exercise Run
Course to Tapp Rd
Distance 7K
Time 43: (44:05)
Comments Ave 145, +2C, cloudy. The trail was mostly dry, but covered by icy snow from place to place. Very comfortable run, almost too comfortable - it feels we need to lift the training effort and intensity to another level.

@ Thu 15/12/2005
Exercise Run
Course CEM4
Distance 5.5K
Time 32:42
Comments Ave 142, +5C, sunny. This was a nice and light run. Tomi seems fully recovered from the cold.

Exercise Irish step
Time 1:30:00
Comments We worked on hard shoe today. We practiced the old jig step, and learned a new one. How much fun it was! Like I said before, we are going to do more hard shoe dancing in the Spring semester. It is going to take some time to get my feet moving again. Gee, I miss tap dancing.

Exercise Run
Course CEM4
Distance 5.5K
Time 31:21
Comments Ave 156, +.5C, sunny. Tomi has sore throat, so Tei ran alone. What a delightful run. The trails in the cemetery are almost clear from snow and ice.

Exercise Run
Course To Tapp Rd
Time 53:53
Comments Ave 148, -1C, sunny. It is a perfect day for any outdoor activity. However, running in snow is hard for calves. Someone had skied and someone ridden some motorized vehicle on the trail, so it was extra bumpy. Should have run in the virgin snow.

Exercise Run
Course To Tapp Rd
Distance 7K
Time 47:30
Comments Ave 148, -2C, blizzard. Easy run. Bloomington got its first real winter storm today. We had only had some light snow when we decided go to a run, but at the time we actually headed out the accumulation was significant. The snow actually made the stride quite smooth and comfortable. However, the wet blizzard turned into icy mix towards the end of the run, so we are quite happy we didn't plan a longer jog.

Exercise Irish step
Time 1:30:00
Comments This was officially the last class of the semester, but we decided to meet again next week. We reviewed the slipjig, jig and reel steps we have learned earlier. Mimi told that we are going to concentrate more on hard shoe dancing next semester (finally!), and encouraged people to get the shoes to the first class. And I can very well dust mine now.

Exercise Run
Course Tecumseh Trail Marathon
Distance 26.2M
Time Tomi 5:41:36 (307.) , Tei DNF (valiant effort)
Comments -1 - +1C. Cloudy, SE wind. Despite week long forecasts of miserable weather - wintry mix of freezing rain and light snow - the weather stayed quite nice. We even saw some sun around noon. Towards the end of the run it started to get really chilly, though.

The first half went really well. Feeling pretty strong and comfortable we ran the flat parts of the trail and even the downhills, but walked steep uphills (no huffin' and puffin'). We were at the halfway marker after 2 hours and 47 minutes of running. Then Tei's right knee started to hurt and she quit at the 20 mile marker to the pain too intense to run. Tomi finished strong; he even ran the last 10K in less than an hour. Great job!

We saw our "getting-lost" buddy of the practice run from two weeks ago. His two friends had bailed out because of the forecasted wet and cold weather.
