Exercise Run (Tomi)
Course CEM2
Distance 3.4K
Time 17:16
Comments +4C, faaaast and furious

Exercise Irish step
Time 1:30:00
Comments We had shorter class than usual, since the other ladies were going to IU Auditorium to see Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance. We worked on a new reel step (with a twist).

@ Tue 29/11/2005
Exercise Irish step
Time A few minutes
Comments We performed 4-hand reel and slipjig in Mimi's ethnomusicology class she gave on "Politics in Music" using Irish music and Irish step dance as case study.

@ Sun 28/11/2005
Exercise Irish step
Time 2:00:00
Comments We had the final practice and tune-up before Tuesday's "performance".

@ Sat 26/11/2005
Exercise Run
Course RTT
Distance 16.4K
Time 1:41:33
Comments Ave 143, +8C, cloudy. This comfortable run was our last longer run before the next Saturday's trail marathon.

@ Thu 24/11/2005
Exercise Run
Course N
Distance 10K
Time 57:31
Comments Ave 150, +1.5C, sunny, strong and chilly N wind. We have not run this hilly northern road route for at least a year.

@ Tue 22/11/2005
Exercise CycleFit
Time 45:00
Comments Ave 140. We did a lot of long climbs and little sprinting. We liked the atmosphere in this exercise --- we always like Karen's classes. I guess everyone was in good spirits and getting ready for the turkey day.

BTW, IU mens soccer team is not going to three-peat its quest for the national championship, since they lost 0-2 to Notre Dame's Fighting Irish tonight on the second round of the tournament. How sad -- we were really looking forward to the chilly nights at the Armstrong Stadium rooting for our Hoosiers as sleet and rain keeps pouring down. Really.

@ Mon 21/11/2005
Exercise Core
Time 30:00
Comments We worked with weights and the ball. We did "some" crunches and finished with isometric.

Exercise KickBoxing
Time 45:00
Comments Carmen warmed us up, but then we had a trainee give us most of the exercise. Oh gee, her routines progressed fast, but instructions were not that clear. Anyway, we enjoyed the class, and it was very welcome after a stiff day recovering from the yesterday's longish run.

@ Sun 20/11/2005
Exercise Run
Course Tecumseh Trail Marathon (second half practice run)
Distance 16-20M
Time 3:31:00
Comments Ave 137, +10C, partly cloudy. Our plan was to run the second half of the Tecumseh Trail marathon route, but we did not even reach the 3-mile point before getting lost. For some reason we hit the Yellowwood Trail instead of Tecumseh Trail. After running an hour or so we started to get worried, since the points Tomi had marked on the trail to his GPS were getting farther and farther, and the trail we were on kept going East rather than South. The fact that other runners behind us were still going to the same direction encouraged us to go on. There were also three guys ahead of us, and we did not see them coming back.

Actually, it is hard to figure out you are lost, if you don't exactly know where you are supposed to go. Instead, you continue to follow the trail blazes, as told, without paying much attention to directions (and the sun). At least, that's what we did.

After coming to the conclusion that we were somewhere we were not supposed to be, we agreed on the plan to return to the road as soon as possible and find our way back to our cars before it got dark. This plan worked, and we finished at 5:30pm after some rough miles on gravel. But those three guys were still out there somewhere.

We ended up running much longer distance than planned and only a couple miles on the marathon route. Other than this little mishap, the run was a lot of fun. At least none of us was caught by hunters :-)

Exercise Run
Course CEM4
Distance 4*450 (3*600)
Time 2:18 + 2:26 + 2:30 + 2:29 (35:34)
Comments Ave 146, +10.6C. We did some uphill speed sprints in the cemetery. Gee, it was hard, even if the relatively strong tail/side wind was on our advantage.

@ Fri 18/11/2005
Exercise Cooking
Comments We have noticed that a good way to complement our exercise regime is cooking (and eating), especially on those days that we don't feel like running. Usually we decide to cook something that takes a lot of time and labour, including a lot of chopping. Today we don't make anything fancy, but a traditional Finnish split-pea soup.

@ Thu 17/11/2005
Exercise KickBoxing
Time 45:00
Comments Relatively easy. Some simple routines and a lot of repetitions.

Exercise Core
Time 30:00
Comments A lot of crunches on a mat and ball.

@ Wed 16/11/2005
Exercise Irish step
Time 1:30:00
Comments We worked on the lead-around, sidestep and the step for the slipjig. We have only one class before our "performance".

@ Tue 15/11/2005
Exercise Run
Course CEM4
Distance 5.5K
Time 32:30
Comments Ave 148, +17C, cloudy, some sprinkle. As the morning rain takes a break, and before the system that Accuweather.com characterizes as "extremely dangerous weather conditions" brings storms and hail to the area, we head out for a run in the cemetery. It is a perfect weather for running, cool and calm --- there is practically no wind. The bright colors and flowers, pictured at right, are gone, and the world is that plain old oatmeal again.

@ Sun 13/11/2005
Exercise Run
Course Trails 6 & 7 (IU Griffy Preserve)
Distance 17K(?)
Time 2:07
Comments Ave 139, +18C, sunny, strong E wind. The new University Lake Loop Trail is really nice to run -- there are no rocks, roots or stumps, and no mud! However, most of the leaves are down, which makes running a bit hard. Wading in a sea of newly fallen dry leaves, and kicking them out of the way with our feet as we proceed, we make the 3.2 mile loop in less than an hour. We don't see a single person when we are out there!

@ Fri 11/11/2005
Exercise Run
Course RTT
Distance 10K
Time 1:01:08
Comments Ave 159, +13C, sunny.

Exercise Basketball
Course Conseco Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, IN
Time 4*12:00
Comments Pacers beat New Jersey hands down in this early season game. The crowd was a lame version of the fans we saw last Spring in one of the play-off games against Detroit.

@ Wed 09/11/2005
Exercise Irish step
Time 1:30:00
Comments We are still working on the 4-hand reel, and get a lot of compliments from Mimi. We also learned the sidestep for slipjig.

Exercise Swimming school
Time 45:00
Comments 4*100m, 8*50m, 1*500m freestyle

@ Tue 08/11/2005
Exercise KickBoxing
Time 45:00
Comments Ave 123. The leader Mike gave an easy class; a lot of repetitions and simple but somewhat clumsy routines of kicks, squats, and jabs.

@ Mon 07/11/2005
Exercise Run (Tei)
Course To Tapp Rd
Distance 7K
Time 38:45 (1K 5:20; 3.5K 19:22)
Comments Ave 157, +15C, nice!

Exercise Swimming school (Tomi)
Time 45:00
Comments Freestyle. Lot of kicks.

@ Sat 05/11/2005
Exercise Fun run
Course Owen-Putnam State Forest
Distance 21K
Time 3:33:55
Comments Ave 140, +18C. When we got to the OPSF it was still dark, but soon after 7AM there was enough daylight to send the runners off to the trail. Sun did not come out, but weather was still quite nice --- strong and gusty wind did not bother us in the ravines. The trail was pretty muddy and covered by leaves (and horse manure --- that was a horse trail actually). Besides its softness and bumpiness the trail shooted directly up and down the slopes, i.e., there were no switchbacks, which made this a relatively tough run.

@ Thu 03/11/2005
Exercise Soccer, No. 5 Indiana vs. No. 1 Akron
Course Bill Armstrong Stadium, Bloomington, IN
Time 1:34:34
Comments IU beat Akron in the first overtime with a golden goal 1-0.

Exercise Bicycling
Distance 32.44K
Time 1:52:16
Comments +17C, sunny, gusty S wind -- the most pleasant November afternoon for a bike ride. It's just beautiful out there. The colors may have peaked already, but the sunlight compensates the loss in brightness. See the pictures above!

@ Wed 02/11/2005
Exercise Irish step (Tei)
Time 1:30:00
Comments We practiced the figure for the 4-hand reel, and started working on the slipjig routine. This time it felt like exercise --- less talking and more dancing!

Exercise Swimming school (Tomi)
Time 45:00
Comments Lap swimming

@ Tue 01/11/2005
Exercise Run
Course CEM
Distance HOPSIS
Time 28:55
Comments Ave 140, +10C. We did some spontaneous uphill speed intervals in the neighborhood.
