Ave 137, +10C, partly cloudy. Our plan was to run the second half of the Tecumseh Trail marathon route, but we did not even reach the 3-mile point before getting lost. For some reason we hit the Yellowwood Trail instead of Tecumseh Trail. After running an hour or so we started to get worried, since the points Tomi had marked on the trail to his GPS were getting farther and farther, and the trail we were on kept going East rather than South. The fact that other runners behind us were still going to the same direction encouraged us to go on. There were also three guys ahead of us, and we did not see them coming back. Actually, it is hard to figure out you are lost, if you don't exactly know where you are supposed to go. Instead, you continue to follow the trail blazes, as told, without paying much attention to directions (and the sun). At least, that's what we did. After coming to the conclusion that we were somewhere we were not supposed to be, we agreed on the plan to return to the road as soon as possible and find our way back to our cars before it got dark. This plan worked, and we finished at 5:30pm after some rough miles on gravel. But those three guys were still out there somewhere. We ended up running much longer distance than planned and only a couple miles on the marathon route. Other than this little mishap, the run was a lot of fun. At least none of us was caught by hunters :-) |
